Ms Phelans 1st / 2nd and Ms Molloys 2nd class had great fun exploring the topic of floating and sinking. One important lesson they learned was that when it comes to items that float,  the shape of an item can be as important as how heavy it is. They experimented with a piece of plasticine and experimented by changing the shape of it to determine if they could affect how it floats. They discovered that by flattening the piece of plasticine and making it into the shape of a boat they could increase how many passengers their boat could hold without sinking.

The boys and girls also explored what common objects might sink or float.
