Engineers Visit - John Sweeney
As part of Engineers Week John Sweeney from Megs Fabrication visited the boys and girls of Ms Dunnes class and Ms Moriaritys class to discuss his work as an engineer. The boys and girls showed great interest to what was a very interesting talk and there were many questions for John at the end. He was so generous with his time and we are very grateful to him for coming in. |
2nd and 3rd class engineering activity
Ms Moriaritys class had great fun during our recent Engineers Week. They investigated some of the forces that would act on a bridge and experimented with different ways of designing a simple bridge. Pupils also got t0 test their building skills using spaghetti and marshmallows. |
Engineers Week visit - Paul Maher
Mr Paul Maher visited the boys and girls of 4th class during Engineers week. He gave a very interesting talk about the world of building design and construction and there were countless questions from a very interested class. many thanks to Paul and all of our their visitors for sharing their expertise with us. |
Engineers visit - Michelle Crilly IBM
On Friday morning one of our 6th class parents, Michelle Crilly joined us to tell us all about her work as a software engineer. Pupils from 5th and 6th class joined together to hear about software is developed and tested and how information technology is such an integral part of our world today. Michelle talked about some of the exciting projects that IBM are involved in at the moment. Of particular interest to the children was a video about a self drive vehicle called Ollie. Once again what was intended as a short presentation had to be extended such was the volume of questions that the children wanted to put to Michelle. We are very grateful to her and to all of our speakers who have given the pupils a wonderful flavour of the engineering world. |
Engineers week showcase
Engineers visit - Angela Troy
As part of our Engineers Week celebration we invited a number of our parents to speak to the pupils about working in engineering. This morning Mrs Angela Troy visited the boys and girls of 5th and 6th class to discuss her life as an engineer. Some of the topics discussed were
She also demonstrated a range of medical devices to the boys and girls in 6th class. It was an incredibly interesting talk and we are very grateful to Angela for coming in. |
Engineers week in 5th class
The boys and girls of Mr Breslins 5th class took on the challenge of designing and building an electronic board game. Building on the knowledge they had gained from learning about electrical circuits, they looked at simple games they could design themselves using simple circuits. Kaylah, Charlie, Caoimhe and Gary have designed an electronic game called "Switch It" for Engineers week. The aim of the game is to get the pattern right. Aoife, Shane, Conor and Skaiste made an electronic operation game. when you touch the tinfoil with the tweezers lights light up and a buzzer goes off. |
Engineers Week - challenge - Mr Breslins 5th class
As part of Engineers Week every class is encouraged to take on an engineering challenge. The challenge 5th class has undertaken is to design and build an electronic game. We have emphasized the importance of the design process and have been following the framework from the engineersweek.ie website. Look qt the pictures below to see the progress so far. Stay tuned for more updates!!! The design process |
Engineers week next week
Engineers week takes place next week and we are taking part here in Killeigh NS. The following are some of the activities we have planned:
