Enterprising Student
Joe Crilly in 6 class is this year’s school nominee for the ‘Enterprising Student Award’. Joe was inspired by a radio programme he heard to buy 6 Hens and is now running a successful business selling free range eggs. The Principal can vouch for the fact that they’re gorgeous.
Mick the Miller
Congratulations to the Killeigh 'Mick the Miller' committee who have done a wonderful job in preserving the famous
Greyhound’s legacy with a wonderful monument in the village. Well done to Sean Beatty and Ciarán O hAolain (5 Class) for assembling an excellent Mick the Miller Project which is on display just inside the school’s front door. Ciarán has also designed ‘Mick the Miller – Killeigh Thriller’ tee-shirts which he is selling to order and making a small profit. Dragons Den beware!
Sacramental Preparation
Congratulations to our boys and girls in 2 class who recently completed their First penance in preparation for their First Holy Communion which takes place in St Patrick's Church on Sunday 14 May. Confirmation for our 6 Class takes place on 19 May. An excellent day of retreat in preparation for Confirmation was attended by 6 class in Mt St Annes Retreat Centre, Killenard.
National Children's Choir
On Thursday 2 March, we welcomed children from several other schools in Offaly and Laois to practice for the National Children's Choir. Each school teaches the agreed repertoire separately but come together on 3 occasions for practice, before the big concert which takes place on 9th May. A total of almost 260 children packed into the hall for the practice. Ms Sandra Sheeran is doing a wonderful job preparing our 3 and 6 class pupils for the event. Seven children from the school will sing the repertoire along with selected children from other schools in the National Concert Hall later in May.
Shamrock Appeal
Thanks to all those who supported the Shamrock appeal. A total of €744 was made from sales, giving the school €372 towards the cost of school tours.
Credit Union Quiz
Our junior and Senior Credit Union Quiz Teams have participated very well in the Tullamore area Credit Union Quiz in March.
